An air velocity sensor measures the speed of air or gas moving through a duct, stack, or open atmosphere. OSI's sensors use optical scintillation technology, where an infrared beam crosses a flow path and detects intensity fluctuations caused by turbulent eddies in the moving gas. A NIST-certified DSP algorithm converts these scintillation signals into accurate, real-time velocity readings without any physical contact with the gas stream.

Stack gas flow monitoring at power plants for EPA 40 CFR Part 75 compliance and emissions control.

Flare stack velocity monitoring, thermal oxidizer flow measurement, and EPA compliance at refineries.

Long-baseline crosswind and atmospheric turbulence sensing for wake vortex detection and runway safety.

EPA Method 14-compliant airflow monitoring in pot room roof vents for emissions and worker safety compliance.

OSI's patented, NIST-certified optical scintillation sensors deliver ±2% accuracy with no moving parts, no pressure drop, and zero field calibration ever required.
With over 800 million field hours and an MTBF exceeding 80,000 hours, OSI sensors are trusted by NASA, the EPA, NOAA, and leading global energy companies.
OSI air velocity sensors are engineered for EPA 40 CFR Part 75 and Method 14 compliance, supporting environmental reporting without costly third-party calibration services.
