A forward scatter visibility sensor measures meteorological optical range (MOR) by emitting an infrared light beam and detecting the light scattered forward by precipitation or aerosols in the atmosphere. OSI's sensors combine forward scattering with in-beam optical scintillation and optional acoustic detection to discriminate between rain, snow, drizzle, fog, and other precipitation types with high accuracy.
